Special care should be taken with the pattern, i.e. if the suit has a bold design, such as Prince of Wales, houndstooth, tartan, bird's eye, windowpane, Vichy or pinstripe, it is always better to opt for a plain tie. If you choose a shirt with thin stripes, an option to match is the tie with the thinnest stripes or wide stripes that stand out for their colour. For patterned ties the safe choice is plain shirts, as patterned ties do not usually work well.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT TIE
There are different types of ties according to their size. Those with a wide blade, larger than 9 centimetres, are recommended for men with a strong complexion, while the medium are those with a blade smaller than 9 centimetres, stylising the man who wears it and are the most standard, and the narrow ones are those that have a greater slimming effect, as well as providing a casual touch. But in all cases the length of the tie must not exceed the waist of the trousers.
